Napalm Clique = The Last Poets
March 24th, 2007
After another successful week of pre-production we’ve now determined the look and feel of our video.
The Napalm Clique is still teaching Revolution, but they won’t be school teachers and they won’t be militant guerillas. We’re going to dress them to look like the Last Poets, the spoken word poetry group who are said to be the one of the earliest influences on the emergence of hip hop culture.
Combined with posters of The Black Panther newspaper, found footage of revolutionary activism, and a classroom, the Last Poets look should help solidify the idea of “teaching revolution” through music.
I’ve favorited a few music videos that have the look and feel that we want on the Eklectyk YouTube channel.
- Dead Prez - They Schools & Hip Hop
- BDP - You Must Learn
- Nas - I can
We scouted a couple of locations and determined that CCA’s Oakland campus will probably be the best place for our shoot. All of the classrooms on CCA’s campus are art studios, so they’re already setup for manipulation– controlling daylight, setting up artificial lighting, reorganizing space, etc.Ā We found everything from lecture halls, to drawing studios, to film production studios. Unity is a CCA student, so we’ll most likely be able to reserve any space we want.
I’ve organized all of the photos from our CCA location scouting in a flickr set, so check ‘em out.
